The 59th edition of the Concorso Voci Verdiane Città di Busseto has recently disclosed the participation of 123 singers in the upcoming competition. This event is dedicated to young singers aged between 18 and 38 and is held in memory of Carlo Bergonzi. The competition is jointly organized by the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini and the Teatro Regio di Parma. The chosen participants were selected from a pool of 275 applicants hailing from 28 different countries across five continents.
The selection process involved auditions carried out using two methods. Live auditions were conducted at various venues both within Italy and abroad, including Volskoper Vienna, Sofia Opera and Ballet, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, Batumi State Music Centre, Fondazione Arturo Toscanini and Teatro Regio in Parma, Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan, and Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Out of the 123 singers, 85 will take part in the preliminary phase, while 38 have successfully advanced to the semi-final stage.
Heading the jury for the competition will be the esteemed bass Orlin Anastassov. The jury also comprises Alberto Triola (representing Fondazione Arturo Toscanini), Luciano Messi (from Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma), Augusto Techera (from Teatro Colón – Buenos Aires), Jesús Iglesias Noriega (representing Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía), Plamen Kartaloff (from Sofia Opera and Ballet), Alessandro Galoppini (from Teatro alla Scala di Milano), and Stefano Nevicati (Honorary President of the Concorso).
Marked on the calendar between September 8 and 15, 2023, the competition promises to be a momentous gathering of talented vocalists aiming to showcase their artistry and vie for recognition.
