Opera America's New Board Members



OPERA America has made an announcement regarding the expansion of its Board of Directors, including the addition of new members and officers.


Here is a complete list of the new additions to the board:

  • Angel Blue, an esteemed Soprano

  • Cheryl Slay Carr, Board President of Nashville Opera

  • Antonio C. Cuyler, a Professor at the University of Michigan

  • Barbara Lynne Jamison, General Director and CEO of Kentucky Opera

  • Christopher Koelsch, President and CEO of Los Angeles Opera

  • Karen J. Kubin, a Trustee at San Francisco Opera

  • Mont Levy, a Trustee at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis

  • E. Loren Meeker, General and Artistic Director of OPERA San Antonio

  • Andrew Morgan, General Director of Hawai’i Opera Theatre

  • Michael Hidetoshi Mori, Artistic and General Director of Tapestry Opera

  • Sylvia Neil, Board Chair of Lyric Opera of Chicago

  • Julia Noulin-Mérat, General Director and CEO of Opera Columbus

  • Maggey Oplinger, General Director and CEO of Florentine Opera

  • Barbara Augusta Teichert, a Trustee at Los Angeles Opera and Opera Philadelphia

In addition, Susan G. Marineau has been elected as the 14th chair of the organization. Marineau, who currently serves as the chair of The Santa Fe Opera, has been a member of OPERA America's board since 2018 and previously held the position of vice chair of governance.


OPERA America President/CEO Marc A. Scorca expressed excitement about these new appointments, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Susan G. Marineau, Estevan Rael-Gálvez, and Mont Levy to their new roles, along with this group of new board members. Their collective leadership and perspectives will contribute to guiding OPERA America and the industry as we navigate our way out of the pandemic," as stated in an official press release.


Other notable appointments include Estevan Rael-Gálvez as the new vice chair for governance and Mont Levy as the chair of OPERA America's National Opera Center Board. Additionally, Nicholas King, Founder and Executive Director of After Arts, and scenic designer Alan E. Muraoka have joined the National Opera Center Board as board members.
